About.

Sam Knight is a British saxophonist, composer, and educator whose work blends the tradition and history of jazz with his love of choral, classical, and pop music from his formative years. His playing is rooted in the expressive and improvisational spirit of jazz while embracing a melodic sensibility shaped by a wide palette of influences.
A graduate of the Guildhall School of Music & Drama (BMus, 1st Class), Sam is currently pursuing his Master’s degree at the Berklee Global Jazz Institute on a full scholarship, where he has studied with and received mentorship from leading artists including John Patitucci, Joe Lovano, Danilo Pérez, Antonio Sánchez, JD Allen, Francisco Mela, Nadia Washington, Chase Morrin, and Ben Street. These experiences continue to shape his artistry and musical vision.
Sam’s debut album, Knight Life (AMP Records, 2023), featuring Seamus Blake, established him as a distinctive voice in contemporary jazz. Since 2018, he has toured extensively across the UK and Europe with flautist and vocalist Mária Reháková, performing in festivals and concert halls and cultivating an ongoing trans-Atlantic collaboration that bridges jazz and European folk traditions.
Beyond his jazz work, Sam has extensive studio experience in the pop horn world, recording alongside renowned horn players Tom Walsh and Nichol Thompson. This versatility informs his writing and arranging, uniting improvisation with an ear for precision and production.
As an educator, Sam has worked with both young and professional saxophonists, sharing his experience through private teaching and workshops on improvisation, composition, and the art of performance. His students have gone on to gain admission to leading institutions such as the New England Conservatory.
Currently based between Boston and Europe, Sam continues to compose, record, and perform internationally. His upcoming EP delves into themes of history, spirituality, and creative freedom — expanding his artistry beyond genre into a space of reflection and renewal.
